Femtosecond laser technology; a much better alternative to manual cataract surgery

Femtosecond laser technology has emerged as an easier and effective alternative to manual Cataract operations. This technology has minimised complications by improving refractive outcomes. In this, a high resolution image of the eye is reproduced which helps the laser in making precise incisions in cornea. Further this technique has several other positive aspects such as, it prevents chances of infections resulting in faster healing and clearer vision.

Predicting Diabetic Retinopathy might be possible with a new research

Predicting Diabetic Retinopathy in a Diabetic patient is most challenging. To overcome this challenge we at Save Sight Centre in association with Melbourne University, are actively involved in a research project to unravel this mystery. If successful, the treating doctor just by seeing images of retinal blood vessel, would be be able to predict accurately the risk of developing of Diabetic Retinopathy in a diabetic patient.

Microsporidosis a rare eye disease;know more about it

Often in the monsoons, people suffer with viral Conjunctivitis. Quite similar to it is Microsporidosis .It is quite rare but has symptoms similar to Conjuctivitis. It is caused by a parasite called Microsporidia. General practitioners confuse it with viral conjunctivitis due to similar symptoms like redness, watering eyes, blurry vision, discomfort in the eyes etc. In this infection, the Microsporidia (parasite) tend to affect the cornea in the form of "small superficial raised whitish infiltrates". Ophthalmologists is best placed to treat it.In case feeling the same symptoms and not getting any relief,consult an Ophthalmologists at the earliest.

Things you should always remember if you wear Lens

To Do list for every one who wears Lens :
- Wash Hands with Mild soap before wearing lens
- Never use Deodorants or perfumes before inserting lens
- If dropped, pick up the lens with finger dipped in solution. Also, clean the lens with the solution before applying it.
- Keep Spectacles handy.
- Lenses must be removed before Swimming
- Consult an eye specialist if any redness, discomfort or excessive tearing is witnessed by you.

Food rich in Carotenoid can help in preventing Vision Loss


Carotenoid rich food if consumed at young age and in right proportions can help prevent Vision Loss at later ages. Carotenoid contains Lutein which helps preventing factors that cause Vision Loss. Be sure to provide your complete and accurate medical history to your ophthalmologist or eye surgeon. Your eyes might be indicative of some other illness. For example: blood pressure and diabetes may be the cause of redness in the eye. So, always tell your doctor about your medical history so that, he prescribes the correct treatment for your eyes.

Today's sedentary lifestyles has glued us to our computer screens. This often results in Eyestrain, Blurry vision, Dry eyes and Headaches. To avoid, make sure your glasses or contact lens' power is correct and adequate for computer use. Also, if you are working continuously, every 20 minutes give your eyes a rest. If you follow this, by and large you will be able to manage the negative impact of working on computer screens.

Cataract and related Misconceptions

There are several misconceptions associated with Cataract operations(procedure). A patient can watch TV and do ordinary reading on the next day itself. Not only this with black glasses on,the person can even go for walk. Only what needs to be taken care of is cleanliness of eyes and putting the recommended eye drops according to schedule recommended by the eye surgeon.

Never Rub Eyes

It is observed on getting up or on something falling in the eyes, first thing people do is to start rubbing their eyes. Never do this. On something falling in the eyes the best remedy is to wash eyes with clean water. By rubbing eyes we may end up harming eyes even more.
