Medical therapy for ‪‎Acanthamoeba Infection‬

Medical therapy for ‪‎Acanthamoeba Infection‬ is not well established. Early diagnosis and treatment are paramount for improving outcome.Successful treatment of Keratitis‬ consists of early diagnosis and aggressive surgical and medical therapies.
Medical treatment consists of topical Antimicrobial Agents‬, which can achieve high concentrations at the site of the infection.
These topical Antimicrobials‬ are administered every hour immediately after the first several days of therapy. These agents are then continued hourly during waking hours for 3 days. The frequency is then reduced to every 3 hours. Two weeks may be required before a response is observed, and the total duration of therapy is a minimum of 3-4 weeks. Some advocate treating for 6-12 months. When therapy is discontinued, close observation is warranted to rule out recurrent disease.

Ways to protect your eyes in the changing weather

The weather is changing with strong winds blowing. These strong winds bring dust particle with them. This can be potentially risky for our eyes as the dust has fine particles that can enter the eyes and can cause eye infection or even Corneal Abrasion in some case. The best protection against this is wearing good quality sunglasses while being out. Especially those who drive two wheelers need to be careful as they don’t have the protection of the windscreen. In case dust goes in the eyes, wash your eyes with clean water and if irritation persists, then don’t delay seeing a specialist.

Does India lack in healthcare facility as compared to West?

We keep saying that Western/Americans have better healthcare facilities. This is not true, they may have better infrastructure, but in terms of software(skill of the Doctors) we are par or even shade above.Where the major difference lies is in attitude of the patient and their families. Here when we see somebody suffering and tell the patient that surgery should be done, the first reaction is I am not going for it.There is such a fear against surgeries ,whether right or wrong-nobody has the right answer.People are willing to suffer endlessly but will not go for surgery. In sharp contrast is advanced country, they are going for preventive surgeries.Recently in a much publicised case, a Hollywood actress went for one such preventive surgery .Infact this trend is catching on there and if we compare the situation in India, even if is given the only treatment for the problem is surgery, still people are not open.
