Techniques for Cataract Surgery

It is not always likely that surgery of two different people who are diagnosed with cataract are same. The techniques varry with the patient and the size of the cataract. There are three basic techniques for cataract surgery:

Phacoemulsification: This is the most common form of cataract removal. In this most modern method, cataract surgery can usually be performed in less than 30 minutes and usually requires only minimal sedation. Numbing eyedrops or an injection around the eye is used and, in general, no stitches are used to close the wound, and often no eye patch is required after surgery.

Extracapsular Cataract Surgery: This procedure is used mainly for very advanced cataracts in which the lens is too dense to dissolve into fragments. This technique requires a larger incision so that the cataract can be removed in one piece without being fragmented inside the eye. An artificial lens is placed in the same capsular bag.

Intracapsular Cataract Surgery: This surgical technique requires an even larger wound than extracapsular surgery, and the surgeon removes the entire lens and the surrounding capsule together. This technique requires the intraocular lens to be placed in a different location, in front of the iris. This method is rarely used today but can still be useful in certain situations.

Snow Blindness could be avoided by taking necessary and required precautions.

Snow Blindness could be avoided by taking necessary and required precautions. Preventing Snow Blindness could be made easier by simply wearing sunglasses which blocks 100 % of the sun's UV rays whenever staying in outdoors during daylight. The Ultraviolet Radiation also penetrates clouds, so there is a risk of Sunburned Eyes even on cloudy or overcast days. Invest in quality sunglasses which also feature a wrap-style frame to protect the eyes from indirect as well as direct sunlight.

To ensure maximum protection, ask for sunglasses, snow goggles or sports goggles that have side shields or a soft rubber flange that completely blocks sunlight from striking the front of the eyes from the sides, above and below.

Any experience of blur vision in low light must not be avoided, it could be Night Blindness

Changes in vision should never be taken lightly. So any experience of blur vision in low light must be registered to an Ophthalmologist. Night Blindness can be diagnosed and treated by an Eye Specialist. Persons who experience night blindness should not drive during evening or at night. Since night blindness can also be caused by vitamin A deficiency, supplementation with vitamin A, or eating foods rich in vitamin A, can be beneficial. Vitamin A is abundantly found in fruits and vegetables like apricots, carrots, cherries, kale, lettuce, mango, mustard greens, papaya, peaches, pumpkin, red cabbage, seaweed, spinach, sweet potatoes, watermelon, winter squash, and yams.

Eye floaters are tiny thread-like spots that float across your field of  vision. These can appear in black or grey strings or specks in the form of lines, dots, blobs or cobwebs which drift aimlessly along with your vision. Eye infections and their treament

It is a known fact that eye infections are caused by harmful virus, fungi and bacteria.Classic symptoms of these include redness, pain & itching, swelling, water in the eyes, discharge of liquid and blurred vision. If you have any one of these symptoms,go and see an eye specialist.Don't attempt to self medicate as this can be dangerous.Let the doctor find out which infection is the person suffering from and prescribe the right treatment. One thing which you can do is ,if you wear contact lenses, remove them during infection and wear spectacles till the period infection lasts.
Treatment generally includes antibiotic eye drops and ointments.A word of caution here-lot of people use drops lying with them which the doctor prescribed the last time they visited the Doc.Now this can be potentially dangerous as that prescription might be for some other underlying cause. So strictly once again, don't self medicate.

Also bacterial and viral infection can be to a large extent prevented if basic hygiene standards are observed.Washing hands regularly, not rubbing eyes, avoiding use of personal belonging like handkerchief, towel and other things of personal nature.
